What are Good Questions to Ask at the End of a
Job Interview?

Just as a hiring manager asks questions of you during a job interview to assess whether you fit the role, asking questions yourself at the end of an interview is a great way to help determine if the role is a good fit for you.

It’s common at the end of job interviews for the hiring manager to give you an opportunity to ask questions. But when the inevitable prompt — “Do you have any questions for me?”— is actually given, it can be difficult to think of a well-worded interview question under pressure.

Thinking through some questions to ask at the end of your interview ahead of time will help you feel more prepared and confident. It will also show the interviewer that you’ve put thought and consideration into your interview preparation, which will reinforce your interest in the role and can help set you apart from other candidates.

Guidelines for Asking End-of-Interview Questions

Writing out at least five potential questions to ask will help you uncover additional information about the role itself, the company and its culture. Thoughtful interview questions also allow you to probe deep into things discussed earlier in the interview or gain insight into whether the role is a good next step in your career.

When thinking through possible questions to ask, make sure your questions are:

  • Thoughtful and express your interest in the company
  • Not seeking specific information already covered in the job interview
  • Relevant to the role, department or company
  • Demonstrating your understanding of the position
  • Structured to prompt further meaningful conversation
